President Nana Akufo-Addo, who is serving his second in office is under fire to work harder to deal with the ‘economic hardship’ in the country.
The Akufo-Addo led government have been challenged by the #FixTheCountry Movement and other CSOs to address corruption and slash down size of his government as means to reserve sufficient capital for national development.
One Tweeter user has lamented that ‘Financial Stress under Nana Addo can make a man stare at his wife and ask “My sister when are you getting married “ 😅😅#FixTheCountry’.
President Akufo-Addo was hit with bad press in December 2021, one of which said ‘Ghanaians going through difficult times but that’s not my fault–Akufo-Addo’.
Myjoyonline report said ‘While admitting that the current economic terrain is a trying one for citizens, he [the President] has absolved himself of any responsibility in that regard:
‘I admit that Ghanaians are going through difficult times; some people are trying to say that it is my fault, but you know that is not the case. Yet, they will continue to say it’.
On a separate platform, Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Saibu is quoted as saying that the perception of hardship in the country is not true.
He observed that the country is in a good state, adding ‘When I hear things are hard I don’t understand unless you tell me what the hard means’.
For him, Ghanaians are living good under the NPP administration.
He finds people eating good food, living in good homes and driving porsch cars as a measure that government is on the move and doing the right thing to impact on the lives of Ghanaians.
Alhassan Saibu is alleged to have stated in an interview on Tamale-based Sagani TV that;
‘We are challenged by living decent lives. Have you driven around town lately? Have you seen the dresses people wear, have you seen the people of the house live in and the cars people drive?’
This shows that we are not in hard times. We are only challenged by wanting to do more than we have. So resources are scarce because people have a very good use for their resources and people wish that they have more than what they have and that is why people think that there is hardship’, he added.
