Self-styled Islamic cleric, Kabiru Ibrahim, has been sentenced to death by hanging by an Osun State High Court, sitting in Iwo, for the murder of his 25-year-old client, Lukman Adeleke.
According to prosecutors, the deceased approached the cleric and discussed his intention to purchase a parcel of land,to which Ibrahim asked him to bring the money for an overnight prayer before paying the vendor.
But days after the prayers, Adeleke was reported missing.
The family of the deceased gathered from an informant that Adeleke was last seen the day he visited Ibrahim’s residence.
Prosecutors stated that when the family confronted the cleric, he initially denied seeing the deceased for over two weeks. However, he admitted killing Adeleke during police interrogation.
He then led authorities to the Ilesa/Akure expressway, where Adeleke’s remains were found inside a sack, but one of his palms had been severed.
While in court, Ibrahim was found guilty of both murder and theft. He was therefore sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for stealing, and death by hanging for murder.
