A 33-year-old Nigerian man identified as Obi Amba-Ojong has been charged in a magistrate court in Calabar, Cross River State, for allegedly escaping from police custody and willfully damaging a pair of handcuffs belonging to the Nigeria Police Force.
Mr. Amba-Ojong is said to have been in lawful custody for a felony offense but he attempted to flee on May 9,2025.
Police say the incident happened at Adijinkpor Junction, not too far from an army checkpoint in the Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Officially, the two-count charge against Mr. Amba-Ojong include escaping from lawful custody and willful destruction of police property.
The court has granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 and he is expected back in court on June 11, 2025.
