72-year-old Nigerian President Bola Tinubu lost his footing and fell while climbing the steps on a vehicle which was supposed to carry him round to inspect the country’s Democracy Day parade on Tuesday, June 12,2024 at the Eagle Square in Abuja.
Nigeria held the official event to mark 25 years of democracy in the country.
One of President Tinubu’s aides described the incident as a ‘mild misstep’.
‘He immediately went on with the ceremonial rounds. No issues’,Dada Olusegun wrote on X.
The president’s closest contender in last year’s election, Atiku Abubakar also expressed his sympathy over the slip.
He said ‘I sincerely sympathise with President Bola Tinubu over this unfortunate incident as he was set to review the parade on Democracy Day. I do hope that all is well with him’.
Shehu Sani, popular politician and activist noted that even though President Bola Tinubu fell, it is no big deal.
‘Not Just President Tinubu, anyone alive can trip and fall; it happened to President Biden and Fidel Castro. Presidents are human beings and mortals’, he reiterated.
Meanwhile, Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has slammed people making mockery of Mr Tinubu’s unfortunate incident, saying ‘President Tinubu is not a Superman. He is human like all of us. President Biden has had several slips in the last three years. Even the younger Barack Obama slipped while President. Political leaders are human. Slipping should not detract from the import of Democracy Day’. SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
