Owners of public toilet facilities in the country have increased toilet fee.
Your most gossipy news website, Kasatintin.com has learnt that people who use public toilet would pay Ghc 1.00 if the new charge is approved and fully implemented on November 1, 2019.
Currently, one is charged 50 pesewas for using a public toilet facility in most part of the country.
Usage of public toilets should ordinarily be free. Operators however charge a token to enable them to keep the toilet clean and hygienic.
Kasatintin.com has gathered that of all countries in the world, Ghana has the greatest reliance on public toilets.
This partly explains why some people find it pleasurable to engage in open defecation any time of the day.
Strictly speaking, lack of space in Accra makes it unrealistic to build private toilets for people who live in low-income neighbourhoods in the capital.
It is estimated that as high as 36% of residents in Kumasi use pay toilets, and that ‘once-daily use of a public toilet by a family of four would cost between US$3.60 and $18 per month depending on the fee charged by the operator of the toilet they use.’
Meanwhile, the operators of the public toilets have not justified why a 100% per cent increment in toilet fee is very necessary at this time than any other business on earth.
