The compulsory display of the ceremonial portrait of the current head of state, neatly hanging on the walls of most public offices may not be tolerated under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama who took office just three days ago.
The mass production of the presidential portrait for offices has dire financial consequences.
For instance, in 2017, the immediate past government reportedly spent GHS 5.2M to print President Akufo-Addo’s official portraits for public offices.
But it has become clear that John Mahama will not use the taxpayers’ money to print his presidential portrait for public offices.
The Presidency on Thursday, January 9,2025 unveiled the official portrait of President John Dramani Mahama.
A statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson for the President said the portrait captures the essence of President Mahama’s leadership and commitment to the people of Ghana.
The presidential portrait ‘will serve as a symbol of national pride and unity, reflecting the values and aspirations of our great nation’, the statement added.
The Presidency informed ministries, departments, agencies, private businesses and companies, and the public that the government has not authorised, nor does it intend to authorise any company or individual to mass-produce framed copies of Mahama’s presidential portrait for distribution as has happened in previous times.
