President John Mahama has appointed an eight(8)-member committee to organise the National Education Forum in fulfillment of his commitment to reform Ghana’s education sector.
The committee will present its report within the next two weeks. A statement from the Presidency stated the the task of the committee is to develop a detailed strategy for engaging key stakeholders in the education sector and also shaping a new policy framework for national education.
Prof. George Kweku Toku Oduro is the Chairman of the 8 member committee tasked to plan the National Education Forum.
Other committee members include Prof. Smile Dzisi, former Vice Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University,
Prof. Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku, and Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, as well as Inusah Shiraz.
Profile of Prof. Smile Dzisi
Born on June 18, 1971, Prof. Smile Dzisi was the first female to be appointed a Rector of a Polytechnic in Ghana (Koforidua Polytechnic). She ably led the transition of her Polytechnic into a Technical University (Koforidua Technical University).
She also held key positions in the University including Head of Marketing Department, Campus Coordinator, Director of Research and New Programmes, Acting Deputy Registrar (Academic), and Head of the Department of Purchasing and Supply.
Prof. Dzisi received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and later Master of Public Administration degree from University of Ghana and a PhD in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Swinburne University of Technology in Australia, where she received an award for the most distinguished PhD thesis.
Prof. Dzisi is the first female to serve as chair of the Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities of Ghana. She has provided consultancy to the DAAD, UNFPA, Commonwealth of Learning and the World Bank.
She is a strong advocate of entrepreneurship education, women empowerment, and technical vocational education and training (TVET). She was selected as a model for TVET by COTVET/GIZ.
