The cost of the Ghana card- enabled electronic gates (e-gates) system which Vice President Dr Mahumudu Bawumia commissioned at the Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday is $240 million.
The digital border control system (e-gates) has been installed to streamline passenger arrivals. The system enables Ghana Card holders to quickly pass through the e-gates upon arrival at the airport.
But the e-gate failed to open for Dr Bawumia to pass through during a mock run on Wednesday.
This unfortunate incident has since become a subject of discussion in the media.
The cost of the e-gates has also come as a surprise to many. It has emerged that $240 million was spent on the project.
Ghanaian social and political commentator, Bright Simons revealed the cost in a social media post.
He said on his X page ‘I have received a lot of requests to say more about the e-gates launched by Ghana’s Veep yesterday. So, here is a very quick summary of the issues:brightsimons.com/2024/12/04/gha…Short version: the whole thing is just a $240 million gig being cooked’.
