President Paul Kagame of Rwanda has secured a fourth term in office, winning massively in the country’s presidential elections which came off on Monday, July 15,2024.
Kagame, 66 won 99.15% percent of votes from the presidential polls. The president, who has been in power in various roles since 1994, won by a similar margin in 2017.
About 79 percent of ballots have been counted, and 9.5 million Rwandans out of 14 million population registered to vote, authorities said.
Only two candidates were allowed to face Paul Kagame in the July 2024 presidential elections.
Each of Kagame’s opponents, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana managed less than one percent vote.
Paul Kagame is qualified to serve in office till 2034 after a constitutional amendment in 2015 changed a two-term limit. SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
