A police officer who was on duty at the Nyamebekyere Police Station in the Berekum District of the Bono Region of Ghana has been stabbed to death by a suspect.
The deceased, General Sergeant Bright Annobil got killed by Yaw Peprah, a suspect he had arrested and brought to the police station.
Sergeant Annobil arrested Peprah after one Yaw Amankona lodged a complaint that he has threatened him.
‘On reaching the frontage of the Police station, the suspect who was armed with a knife hidden in his pocket attacked and stabbed the G/Sgt Annobil severely on the neck and other parts of the body’, police report said.
Annobil was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital for treatment but he died shortly.
Yaw Peprah went into hiding after stabbing the police officer to death.
Police report sighted by Kasatintin News stated that ‘A manhunt was launched in the Berekum township to track down the suspect and when he was found at his hideout at Komfuokrom, a suburb of Berekum, he again attacked and attempted to stab the arresting officers with the knife.
‘He was shot after several attempts to disarm him failed’. The report addd that Peprah ‘was also sent to the Holy family Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival. Both bodies are deposited at the same Hospital Mortuary for preservation’.
