Recently appointed Board Chair of the Ghana Airports Company Limited(GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere has received public backlash for wasting the sum of 84,000 Ghana Cedis on Christmas tree.
Photos of the supposed Christmas tree which cost GhC 84K has popped up on social media, and many Ghanaians, including controversial journalist Kevin Taylor have expressed the view that it is a total waste of money.

Invoices from the two companies who did the Christmas decoration at Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport have been widely shared on the internet.
Paul Adom-Otchere has also issued a long statement to clarify the 84K Ghana Cedis Xmas tree scandal.
He explained that ‘The Ghana Airports Company Limited has for many years mounted Christmas inspirations around the terminal area to create a festive atmosphere for passengers and their families coming into the country.
‘The total expenditure of 2021 is the lowest since 2016’.
According to him, ‘Two separate suppliers were invited to submit bids. The bids were discussed and discounts obtained. (We are grateful to Jandel Limited and Favors and Arts)’.
‘The beautiful Christmas tree standing at Terminal 3 and 3 others altogether cost GHC 34,000, which was graciously provided by Janet Limited at a heavy discount’, Adom-Otchere added saying:
‘The other inspiration provided by Favors and Artsfor a total cost of HHC 84,000 out of which GHC 50,000 was obtained via sponsorship’.
He again said claims that invoices for the trees were issued in his name are untrue.
‘It is ridiculous for anyone to say that the invoices from these two reputable companies were issued in the name of the Board Chairman, that just means the author of such spurious allegations has insufficient acquaintance with corporate workings’.
