A Ghana Premier League (GPL) game between Nations FC and Basake Holy Stars FC ended in violence after the referee awarded a second penalty against Nation FC at the 33rd minute on Sunday, June 1,2025 at the Ampain AAK II Arena.
Basake Holy Stars already led by 1-0 in the first half on Sunday afternoon. The goal was scored through a penalty kick.
The second penalty sparked outrage among Nations FC players and coaching staff.
Their goal keeper Kofi Mensah had a confrontation with match officials, prompting police officers to intervene.
Nations FC players also surrounded the referee and protested that his two penalty calls in the match were unjustified.
The Nations FC players and technical team members subsequently walked off the pitch, and abandoned the match over unfair officiating.
With just one round of fixtures remaining, Nations FC needed at least a draw in the game to keep them in the 2024/2025 GPL season.
