The Supreme Court has granted a request by John Mahama to have the proceedings of the 2020 election petition broadcast live on national television.
The apex court granted the request at the first hearing of the election petition today, Thursday, January 14.
The legal team of the former President intimates the decision is in the interest of fairness as was done during the 2012 election petition.
Overall, Mahama is seeking the court to set aside the 2020 election results in which NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo was declared President.
Mahama argues that none of the candidates including Akufo-Addo obtained more than 50% of the votes cast hence the declaration should be annulled.
He is asking the court to order the Electoral Commission to organise a fresh presidential election for him and Nana Akufo-Addo.
The court is expected to give a ruling on the case within the next 42 days.
