Josephine Panyin Mensah, 28-year-old lady at the centre of the controversial kidnapping and pregnancy case in Takoradi has appeared in court for the first time today, Monday, September 27.
Josephine Panyin Mensah was represented in a Takoradi Circuit Court by five (5) pro bono lawyers, according to reports by Starrfm.com.gh.
She has been charged with deceiving a public officer and publication of false statements with the intent to cause fear and panic.
Prosecutor alleged that the mobile phone number used by the supposed kidnappers was registered in the name of the accused person, Josephine Panyin Mensah Simons.
Also, police gathered that the accused bought a prosthetics at the Takoradi market circle at the cost of thirty Ghana Cedis (GH₵ 30) which she wore to pretend that she was pregnant.
Josephine is said to have visited the Takoradi Hospital on September 11, 2020 with lower abdominal pains and was treated for pelvic inflammatory disease.
She was found to have visited the facility four times with no records of antenatal care.
She pleaded not guilty to the two charges levelled against her by the police.
The Takoradi woman was granted a GH₵ 50,000 bail with two sureties to be justified.
She will reappear in court on October 14, 2021.
