The Catholic Church has a new leader—Pope Leo XIV.
Pope Leo XIV, known in private circles as Robert Francis Prevost is 70years. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA, on September 14, 1955.
Prevost becomes the first American-born Pope. His appointment marks a significant milestone for the Catholic Church in the United States and globally.
Before becoming Pope, Prevost had a distinguished career in the Catholic Church. From 2001 to 2013, he served as Prior General of the Augustinians, leading the Augustinian order.
He was also Bishop of Chiclayo, Peru from 2015 to 2023, where he later became a naturalized citizen.
Prevost was appointed by late Pope Francis as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops in 2023. He played a key role in evaluating and recommending candidates for the episcopate worldwide.
As the first American-born Pope, Pope Leo XIV’s leadership may bring new perspectives and challenges to the Church.
