Residents in the Ejisu Municipality of Ashanti Region slept in darkness on Wednesday, June 11,2025 after a snake entered the Electricity of Ghana (ECG)’s substation at Kwaso,made contact with the feeder and the ground, and triggered an automatic shutdown of the Akyawkrom 2 feeder line.
The power outage lasted for some hours. The ECG emergency team stepped in and restored power to affected community.
Officials explained that the incident highlights recurring problem of animals interfering with power infrastructure.
They emphasized that wildlife intrusion remains a non-technical risk to grid stability, but they are putting in the necessary efforts to reduce such incidents.
According to ECG, they have expanded investment in snake guards, sealing cable entry points, clearing vegetation, and improving drainage to prevent animal access to substations.
