A 22-year-old man, identified only as Kwame, has been remanded by a court in Koforidua for allegedly robbing and raping a 25-year-old nurse.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at Srodae, a suburb of Koforidua.
The victim, who had rented a room in the accused person’s family house a few months ago, was reportedly deceived by Kwame into believing that someone was urgently looking for her in front of the Yiadom Hwedie Palace of the New Juabenmanhene.
As the nurse went away to meet her supposed visitor, Kwame quickly sneaked into her bedroom and covered himself up in a mask.
After she returned to her room, the accused person pulled a knife on her and demanded that she released all her money to him.
Terrified, the victim handed over GH¢1,000 cash to him but he was not satisfied and further demanded a mobile money transfer— but she had no funds in her mobile wallet.
Still armed with a knife, Kwame ordered the nurse to undress, forced her into a doggy-style position, and began to have sex with her out of her will.
Although Kwame fled the scene, she was able to identify his voice. She proceeded to lodge a complaint at the police station and a search warrant was issued.
Kwame was immediately arrested after he appeared at the police station with his father to plead for forgiveness.
Medical report was obtained.
Kwame has been remanded by the Koforidua court and has been charged with rape, robbery, threat of death, and threat of causing harm.
Meanwhile, the victim is said to be traumatised and has since relocated from Koforidua.
