The 2024 general elections has reached the final phase. 13 presidential candidates have been certified  by the Electoral Commission to participate in the December 7 elections.

The two leading political parties, NPP and NDC are making a big deal out of the position their candidate occupy on the ballot paper—both spiritual and marketing perspective.

NPP flag bearer, Dr Mahumudu Bawumia is number 1 on the ballot paper while John Mahama of the NDC is 8.

Dr Bawumia and his campaign team jubilated after picking the number 1 spot during balloting at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Accra on Friday, September 20,2024.

‘It seems number 1 is a cool marketing tool although that doesn’t not automatically translate into direct votes. NPP must put in extra strategies to appeal to potential voters’, one political marketing expert suggested.

In a social media post, the National Communication Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi explained that ‘Biblically, 8 is a number of new beginnings, which is what the NDC’s agenda to RESET Ghana is all about’.

He added ‘The number 8, signifies that John Mahama has been ordained by God to serve as President for 8 Years. It also signifies that God has ordained JM to end the 8 years of mismanagement, corruption, nepotism and state capture of the failed NPP government’.
