The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has painted a vivid picture of the trauma he suffered when he was arrested and left in the custody of Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Chairman Wontumi got arrested on May 27, 2025 when he was invited by the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for questioning over alleged serious criminal offences, including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
Wontumi, while addressing party supporters at Adansi Asokwa constituency on Wednesday, September 10,2025 said when he was detained by EOCO, he very much felt that death was drawing near.
He expressed his pains at EOCO in Twi, a Ghanaian dialect (directly translated in English in this news report).
‘When I was arrested by EOCO, if you count your legs three times, that’s the width of the place where I was kept, and if you look at where I slept, I nearly died.
‘If one is about to die, you would know, you would see your relatives who have already passed away; you would begin to sense their presence around you, which literally means you are about to join them’.
