Six people have been confirmed dead, several others have also been injured during the ongoing recruitment exercise into the Ghana Armed Forces.
There was stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra, where the exercise is taking place.
According to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces, the tragedy happened at about 6.20am when an unexpected surge of the applicants breached security protocols and forced their way through the gates ahead of the scheduled screening.
The injured are receiving treatment a the 37 Military Hospital, where medical teams are working to stabilise their condition.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama has visited the victims who are currently on admission at the hospital.
He has also the Ghana Army Forces to temporarily halt the recruitment process, and put in place better screening procedures.
