44-year-old consultant anesthetist, Dr. Suhail Anjum is in trouble for leaving a patient undergoing keyhole surgery in a theatre at Tameside General Hospital in Greater Manchester, UK to have sex with a nurse in another operating theatre.
Dr. Anjum, a practicing surgeon from Pakistan, was undertaking the keyhole surgery to remove a gallbladder from the patient on September 16, 2023.
Though the incident occurred two years ago, Dr. Anjum’s actions are currently under review by the General Medical Council (GMC), and a tribunal will decide whether he should be allowed to continue practicing medicine in the UK.
Dr. Anjum has expressed a desire to resume his medical career in the UK, but the GMC is pushing for strict measures to protect patient safety and maintain public trust in medical professionals.
