Michael Okyere Baafi, the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, has vowed to resign from Parliament if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) loses the Akwatia by-election.
‘If the NPP loses this Akwatia by-election, I will resign as MP. Mark my words!’, Okyere Baafi stated confidently during an interview on GHOne TV on August 31, 2025.
The legislator’s assertion comes ahead of the by-election scheduled for September 2, 2025, which was necessitated by the passing of Ernest Kumi, the former MP for Akwatia.
The contest is expected to be intense, with the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu,40, facing off against the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Bernard Bediako Baidoo,Esq,40.
Over 50,000 registered voters are expected to cast their votes across 119 polling stations in Tuesday’s elections.
The outcome of the Akwatia by-election will be closely watched, and Baafi’s resignation vow has added an extra layer of intrigue to the contest.
