A 25-year-old Ghanaian student accused of his involvement in a robbery case has been handed a decade-long prison sentence.
The convict, Fatawu Amponsah, a driver’s mate and Level 200 student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was convicted of robbing a hairdresser of her iPhone 11, valued at GH¢3,000.
The victim, Juliet Nuarko is a hairdresser apprentice at Abuakwa-Asenemaso, while the convict, stays at SDA junction, also in the same area.
The court heard how Fatawu trailed Juliet on June 16,2025 and demanded her phone.
When she refused, the convict pulled out a kitchen knife and subjected her to severe beatings before snatching the phone and fleeing the scene.
Juliet screamed for help and some community members rushed to the scene. They chased down Fatawu and successfully arrested him.
The Akropong Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District is reported by the state media to have sentenced Fatawu to 10 years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
