President John Mahama has removed the Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office with immediate effect on grounds of stated misbehaviour.
The decision follows recommendations from a constitutional committee set up under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.
President Mahama acted on the report he received from the committee constituted under Article 146(6) to inquire into a petition filed by one Ghanaian citizen, Daniel Ofori.
Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed the dismissal in a statement dated Monday, 1st September,2024, stressing that the decision takes effect immediately.
