The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency of Akwatia in the Eastern Region , Ernest Kumi, has passed away after a short illness. The cause of his death is reported to be heart attack.
Mr Kumi, who is a first-time MP on the ticket of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), had recently been at the centre of a high-profile legal battle over his parliamentary legitimacy. The Supreme Court overturned his contempt conviction related to the disputed 2024 parliamentary election results.
Ernest Kumi hails from Aakyem-Wenchi, survived by a wife and three children. He kept his marriage private.
His net worth is estimated at $1 million.
