A 9-year-old boy has married a 62-year-old woman in South Africa to appease his dead ancestors.
Sanele Masilela, 9 married Helen Shabangu, 62 at two separate ceremonies as part of a ritual.
This makes their union ‘official’.
Kasatintin.com gathered that Masilela was visited by dead ancestors who told him to wed Shabangu.
Sanele’s family believes, had they refused to wed–to please their ancestors–something terrible would have happened to both families.
But some people in Ximhungwe village, where the marriage ceremony took place described the whole event as ‘sickening‘.
Though married, the couple will not live together.
Sanele plans to marry a lady his own age when he is older.
Shabangu said:
‘I’m very happy that the boy chose me and my family support and understand that it is part of making ancestors happy.
‘One day Sanele would grow normally and have family of his own and get married one day, all this ceremony is for making ancestors happy. We are playing’.
Sanele and Shabangu got married in 2014.
Reports said the two lovers had their first child after 4years being together.
