Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed has placed a ban on commercial s* x activities in the Tamale area.
The Minister said the activities of the ‘Ashawo’ workers could impeed the fight against Coronavirus in the Northern Region.
Mr Saaed, whiles addressing the press in Tamale on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 hinted that some of the Ashawo workers were part of the patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the region.
He therefore appealed to residents of Tamale to stop patronizing the services of the commercial s* x workers in the area so as to contain the spread of the virus.
The Minister declared that:
‘Henceforth, I as the Northern Regional Security Council Chairman, I am banning pr0stitution in the Northern Region and its related activities in our part of the country given the fact that pr0stitution in the first place is not a good thing that our people in this part abhor’.
Some pr0stitutes have advisd Mr Saeed to withdraw the ban saying s *x work is an essential service which keeps men alive.
‘A lot of men will die within this cornona and lockdown period if you ban our services. Mr Minister, make you no try ban us ooo’, Naomi, a pr0stitute who has been in the profession for 8 years told Kasatintin.com.
Another Ashawo woman said:
”The Minister should know by now that we have saved many marriages from breaking down. Some men are not happy at home. He’ll not break-up with you because of what we give them.
We have been sat!sfy!ng him on your behalf. Stand with us to win this f!ght against the Minister; He can’t do that. He should have come to our Union to seek our concerns’.
Hajia also stated that ‘Ashawo business is an essential service.People have been calling me to come over to their homes and service them’.
The s* x workers unanimously begged government to allow them to operate even as part of the nation is on a partial lockdown.
They pledged to observe all the necessary precautions while they do their ‘business’.
‘We will wear mask, gloves, use our hand sanitizers and wash our hands frequently’, the Ashawo women said.
