Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo has made a public statement saying he will hand over power when he officially ends his second term.
President Akufo-Addo declared in an address at the Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 that;
‘As president of the Republic of Ghana and current chair of the ECOWAS governance authority, I pledge to continue to respect the tenets of the ECOWAS protocol on democracy and good governance.
‘I will not make or cause any significant changes to electoral laws in the final six months before the next election. I will adhere to the two-term limit for the exercise of Presidential authority enshrined in the Republic of Ghana’s constitution’.
President Akufo-Addo also urged his fellow African leaders to make similar pledges.
Nana Addo was sworn into office on January 7, 2017. He was re-elected in 2020 defeating NDC’s John Dramani Mahama for the second time.
He has received huge praises for introducing Free Senior High School, which has allowed many underprivileged children to have formal education.
President Akufo-Addo is also building a National Cathedral to fulfill a promise he made to God to make him win election 2016 hands down.
He has been accused by North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over his inconsiderate frequent travels outside the country.
According to the North Tongu legislator, the president cruises in a rented plane which cost the tax payer close to £15,000 per hour during his foreign travels.
NPP Will Win 2024 Election – Nana Akufo-Addo
In August 2021, President Nana Akufo-Addo predicted victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate who will step in his shoes and contest the 2024 presidential elections.
Speaking during the 29th anniversary of the founding of the NPP at the party’s headquarters in Accra, he said the party has delivered on many of its promises to Ghanaians since winning power in 2016 and 2020.
He said ‘I am confident that come 7th December, 2024, the New Patriotic Party candidate will win the polls’, and continue to do more for Ghanaians.
