President Bola Tinubu could be removed from office following allegations of presenting fake academic credentials to the Nigeria’s electoral Commission before the February 2023 elections.
Nigeria’s main opposition party declared on Thursday its intention to go to court and have President Bola Tinubu prosecuted and consequently force him to step down.
This is a fresh legal challenge from the opposition parties seeking to overturn results of the recent presidential polls.
Atiku Abubakar, first runner-up of the presidential elections previously had argued in court that Tinubu should not be installed as president because firstly, the electoral commission did not follow due process in announcing him as winner of the polls and again, Tinubu should have been disqualified from the presidential race citing allegations of dual citizenship and a criminal indictment in the United States.
‘President Bola Tinubu forged a diploma from an American university that he presented to Nigeria’s election commission before the February vote and should be removed from office’ , Abubakar and his lawyer claimed during a briefing with reporters.
They cited records obtained from the university in a U.S. court hearing and shared some details with The Associated Press.
Temitope Ajayi, Tinubu’s media aide subtly denied the claims. Commenting on the allegation, he wrote on X ‘A man cannot forge the academic records he possesses’. (Watch the video below).
