Former president John Dramani Mahama was conspicuously missing at the 63rd Independence Day event which took place in Kumasi on Friday.
A Photo of the seat that was reserved for Mr Mahama has popped up on social media generating needless political debate among supporters of the ruling NPP and opposition NDC.
Ex- president Jerry John Rawlings also could not make it to this national event which was held at Baba Yara Sports Stadium this year.
Some Ghanaians have put a political spin on the absence of the two living ex-presidents at the national anniversary event.

‘Opana has decided to run away again. Ghanaian voter will run away from him come 2020. #more4Nana’, one social media said.
Another user threw in a sarcast!c statement saying ‘Maybe he didn’t like the tag on the chair former president’.

The 63rd Independence Day celebration was under the theme ‘Consolidating Our Gains’. The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Keith Christopher Rowley was the special guest of honor.
This is the first-ever Independence Day celebration in the Ashanti Region and the second in the series since the current administration started to move the yearly celebration from Accra.
President Nana Akufo-Addo refused to shake hands of dignitaries present at the event.
Akufo-Addo instead of shaking hands, bowed to each dignitary including the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Dr Keith Christopher Rowley, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
He declined to shake hands with the dignitaries due to one fundamental reason- fear of contracting coronavirus.
