Mortuary workers in public institutions across Ghana have taken a final decision to embark on a nationwide strike starting Thursday, September 26, 2024. The strike action is in protest of their poor working conditions and unresolved grievances.

In a press statement, the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) cited ‘deliberate neglect of their demands’ as reason for the impending industrial action.

The mortuary workers are crying over of these: Inadequate provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), leaving workers exposed to diseases and hazards, salary arrears dating back to 2020 remain unpaid and payment of the COVID-19 bonus announced by the President, which mortuary workers have yet to receive.

Also, the aggrieved mortuary staff allege that their request for financial clearance to employ 500 additional mortuary workers has been ignored.

They related that the alarming rate of mortuary worker deaths, with 16 reported in one year, highlights the urgency of addressing these concerns.

The mortuary workers threatened that until their demands are met, all mortuaries will be closed while members of MOWAG stay at home.SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
