Former President John Dramani Mahama has filed a motion at the Supreme Court to allow him to correct a ‘mistake’ in his election petition.
Mahama is challenging the validity of the declaration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as winner of the 2020 presidential election.
He is praying the court to direct the Electoral Commissioner, first respondent to rerun the presidential elections between him (John Dramani Mahama) and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo , the second respondent in the case before it.
However, in his petition to the Supreme on December 30, 2020, Mahama committed a clerical error in Relief (f) of which he was seeking that;
‘An order of mandatory injunction directing the first respondent to proceed to conduct a second election with petitioner and first respondent [instead of 2nd respondent] as the candidates as required under Articles 63(4) and (5) of the 1992 Constitution.’
It is this ‘mistake’ that the NDC flagbearer is seeking the permission of the apex court to correct.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear the motion for amendment on Thursday, January 14, 2021.
