The final burial rites of former President Jerry John Rawlings comes off January 24 to 27, 2020, government has announced.
The funeral of Rawlings was initially postponed indefinitely following concerns raised by the family of the late president— Awadada of the Anlo State, Agbotui and Allied families.
It appears all outstanding issues have been addressed now thus paving way for government to issue the latest statement on the funeral arrangements.
Rawlings died on Thursday, November 12, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after a short illness. He was 73 years.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that he will be laid in state from January 24 to 26 at the Foyer of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) from 9 am to 5 pm daily.
Also, a funeral mass will take place on January 26, from 9 am to 11 am at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra.
On January 27, a burial service will be held for Ghana’s first president in the fourth Republic from 9 am to 11 am at the Independence Square.
