The Ghana Police Service have reacted to the attacks on some journalists who covered the trial of Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah’s on Monday at an Accra Circuit Court.

Some supporters of Reverend Owusu Bempah allegedly prevented the media from entering the courtroom where the man of God and four others were arraigned to face charges of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace and threat of death.

The suspects were arrested on Sunday (12 September) for issuing threats, brandishing weapons and attacking police officers.

The police have rendered an apology to the journalists who were attacked in court.

They said all newsmen will be fully protected at the court premises in the ongoing trial.

A statement signed by ACP Kwesi Ofori, the acting Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service said;

‘We apologise unreservedly for this inconvenience wish to give the assurance that journalists will be fully protected and allowed to do their work at all times including the subsequent coverage of the case’.

‘We will continue to do everything possible to deepen the cordial police-media relationship’.

The statement added that, the police is currently studying the footage of the purported incident to identify and bring the perpetrators to book.
