Speaker Alban Bagbin has won the love of Ghanaians after he showed up in Parliament in a traditional outfit.
Mr Bagbin ditched his usual ceremonial robe for a beautiful Kente cloth as he presided over parliamentary business.
He adorned himself with gold jewelry and a royal crown similar to the costume Ewe chiefs wear at key traditional functions.
Alban Bagbin has decided to go African wear and he is reported to have announced that he will only use the Speaker’s cloak for ceremonial occasions as part of his commitment to change the dress code and code of conduct of MPs.
According to information, this is the first time a Speaker under the 4th Republic is conducting official business in the chamber with a traditional outfit other than the usual gown.
Following Bagbin’s exemplary gesture on Tuesday, and the positive commendations received so far, some believe he might succeed in getting all MPs to ditch suits and starting wearing Made-In-Ghana attire to the house.
