Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, a moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has branded all critics of President Nana Akufo-Addo as ‘witches’.
The moderator is particularly not happy with the way a section of the general public have cast doubts about government’s promise to construct 111 hospitals within 18months.
Under Agenda 111 project, the Akufo-Addo led government plans to undertake massive infrastructure development in the health sector by building approximately 111 district and regional hospitals, and two new psychiatric hospitals.
Government has already secured 88 different parcels of land for the project which is estimated to cost $17 million per hospital.
Akufo-Addo’s vision is to make Ghana the centre of excellence for medical care in West Africa by 2030.
But some Ghanaians have questioned the basis of building the new hospitals when the government itself promised 88 before election 2020 and couldn’t deliver.
Others maintain that Agenda 111 makes no sense when government can resource existing facilities to improve on healthcare delivery in the country.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante however thinks those suggestions are bogus.
He said;
‘We’ve allowed politics to dominate our lives to an extent that we do not have good hospitals… If someone says he is coming to construct 111 hospitals and you are angry about it, you are a witch. For the pastors who want to exorcise witchcraft, deal with those critics’.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Mante who also doubles as the Chairman of the Christian Council is optimistic Akufo-Addo will fulfil the Agenda 111 project before stepping down in 2024.
Giving the assurance, he said ‘We’re waiting for you to construct the hospitals. If you don’t, we shall criticize you. More importantly, do not build sub-standard hospitals and clinics’.
