A 52-year-old woman, Abigial Rawlings Mawutor has made a shocking revelation that she is the first daughter of late President Jerry John Rawlings.
Madam Abigail Mawutor claimed that then young Rawlings had an affair with her mother and gave birth to her in March 1968.
She insisted being the biological child of Ghana’s former president and indicated her readiness to undertake paternity test to prove her claim.
The old woman recounted that her mother kept quiet about the pregnancy so that Rawlings’ parents will not terminate his education.
‘My mother said she was so much in love with Rawlings and wanted him to complete his education so she didn’t mention him to anybody as the one responsible for the pregnancy’.
Madam Abigail Mawutor however said she only got to know the identity of her father in 2002.
She claimed that when she opened up to Grace Omaboe popularly known as Maame Dokono, she advised her to keep her mouth shut.
The lady said upon Maame Dokono’s advice, she fled to Togo to save her life.
‘Maame Dokono knows about this. In 2003, I paid a visit and told her about my story, but she told me if I don’t keep quiet about it I may die. So she gave me money and I left the country’.
The 52-year-old woman explained that his father Rawlings sent her money for her upkeep through friends.
According to her, the Rawlings family are fully aware of the situation but felt embittered that they did not involve her in the planning of his late father’s funeral.
The final funeral rites for late former President Jerry John Rawlings is underway in Accra.
The late President will be buried at the Military Cemetery on Wednesday.
