The anti-corruption committee, Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) constituted by President-elect John Mahama has received some documentations to enable them open an investigation into an alleged fraud at the National Service Scheme (NSS) secretariat.
Prior to the 2024 general elections, The Fourth Estate and the Media Foundation for West Africa uncovered some financial irregularities and fraud at the NSS.
The investigative piece suggested that for the past four years (2020-2024), the NSS included nearly 200,000 ghost names on the scheme’s payroll and this resulted in some financial losses to the state to the tune of GHC 68.64 billion (approximately $4.5 billion).
The estimated cost is based on the monthly allowance of GHS 715 which was paid per ghost name over a 48-month period.
Chairman of ORAL, Sam Okudjeto Ablakwa revealed in a social media post that ‘Team ORAL has today received the full dossier on the National Service ghost names scandal which conservative estimates indicate has cost Ghana over GHS500million.
We are extremely grateful to The Fourth Estate and the Media Foundation for West Africa for the presentation and their exceptional patriotism. Together, we shall reset Ghana and recover all loot’.SOURCE: Kasatintin.com
